State missed out on ` 1500 crore, will spend its own: Power minister

Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar rued the fact that the State lost out on nearly `1500 crore which he said could have been secured from the centre but the power department failed to send the project with estimates. rn"They were under the impression that the money would be sent without sending any estimates or any project," Madkaikar said.

He however assured that the state government would now spend `1500 crore from its own funds on upgrading power infrastructure which would mainly be spent on setting up new sub stations.
"We have all the power we need. Where we fall short is in infrastructure. Calangute and Candolim are the only areas in Goa which have to deal with load shedding. It is because of the shortage of infrastructure.
The permanent solution, he said, lays in the new substation at Saligao which they were setting up and which would power the entire coastal belt .
He also promised that a similar substation would be set up in Tuem in Pernem to look after the upcoming Mopa airport as well as the Tuem ESDM Park.
